Abstract
Testing whether formalized land rental agreements reduce disputes in refugee settlements through a randomized controlled trial.
The Challenge:
Researchers needed to test whether formalized land rental agreements reduce disputes in refugee camps through a randomized controlled trial requiring sensitive data collection in humanitarian contexts.
The Solution:
HDS secured IRB approval from Uganda National Council for Science & Technology (UNCST), trained enumerators in trauma-informed interviewing techniques, and managed all phases of the RCT including intervention distribution and tracking. Our team navigated complex security protocols and multi-stakeholder coordination across refugee settlements while maintaining research integrity.
Key Outcomes
Successfully completed all survey phases with 96% retention rate across treatment and control groups, generating groundbreaking evidence on land tenure security in displacement settings that informed UNHCR policy frameworks.
